ASEAN: Digital Banking & E-Payments

Extremely high mobile connectivity and relatively low access to bank accounts, offers an enormous opportunity for incumbent banks and new entrants with the ability to offer digital/e-banking services.

Targeting millennial's and the under-banked/un-banked, ASEAN banks are already launching operations across the region. The ASEAN demographic sees target consumers at 160m by 2030 with half under 30, and most digitally savvy. FinTech funding has exploded to meet this demand with new start-up e-payment platforms opening across the region. New licenses are being issued, with Singapore soon to approve 5 consortia bids, and Indonesia launching multiple e-payment platforms.

We recommend visiting key incumbent banks and new start-ups, the latter unlisted but willing to discuss the key characteristics of what they do.
